Varsity Takes 5th Place as Team in Jim Root Classic
Coming off a league win on Thursday, the Half Moon Bay Varsity Wrestling Team had a strong presence at the Jim Root Classic Tournament in San Jose this past weekend.
Congratulations to John Claitor (125) for winning the tournament in good fashion. Claitor wrestled well all day, including his win in the finals to cap off his championship run. This is John's second 1st place finish of the season in a tournament.
Joe Lowman, a freshman at (152), dismantled his opponents all day to get him to the championship finals match. Unfortunately, Joe lost a tough one in finals to place 2nd, however, "he has every reason to keep his head high , he wrestled great all day" according to Coach Gabe Gammon. Good Job Joe!
Bryce McGaw (189) had another good performance and placed 4th for the Cougars. He continues to show why he is team Co-Captain and a leader on the team. Anthony Rivera (135), continues to stack up the wins with another 4 - win day. Going 4-1 for the day Anthony was only able to place seventh in the tourney due to bracket constraints. Having 4 pins yesterday, Anthony has a record of 9-2 in the past week alone. Nate Seaton (130) also lost his first match but battled his way through the consolidation brackets for a couple more wins to take 5th place. Once again Nate proves why he is on his way to becoming a part of Cougar Wrestling History.
Add in a couple wins for Colin Williams (160) and Jeff Berner (112) and it was a great day for the Varsity squad. Only 7 wrestlers participated and a 5th place team trophy. Outstanding gentlemen!!!!
