JV Squad Gains Three Crowns at San Jose Tourney
If the recent showing at the Del Mar JV Wrestling Tournament by the young cougar JV squad is any indication of what is to come in future years, then the future is bright.
Actually, it is really bright. A good size of the team were champions at the event. Three out of eight wrestlers took 1st place at the San Jose event. Led by Victor Rivera a freshman (122) who mowed down his bracket with four wins, all with 1st rd. pins. 1st year competitor Jeff ( Burgler) Berner (115) took the crown with a pin in his championship match followed by Manny Arellanes (138) winning his weight bracket.
Other great showings were by Jacob (The Butcher) Mulderick (99) with a 2nd place finish, Brian (Kooch) Martinez also was a runner-up at (143) with a tough loss in finals. Receiving his first hardware and placing second in the tourney was Roy (Thirdy) Sanchez who is a first year wrestler with huge potential.
Lasty, Billy Hamilton (133) wrestled up a bracket and came away with a 3rd place medal and 4-1 record for the day. With three pins for the day, Billy was a couple points away from a 1st place showing as well. It was Billy's first loss of the season. "Billy is one of our most consistent wrestlers, he will learn from the loss and just get better" according to Coach John Rhodes.
Great Day Gentlemen!!!
